In 2008, burdened by the amount of pottery I had collected over the years, I decided to recycle some of it and surprise strangers with gifts in places where one ordinarily wouldn't find such things.
Each piece bore a little note asking the finder to take it in and look after it, and told a little about how the piece was made and of what. I documented every piece photographically in situ, and walked away not knowing who found them and took them in.
I still have pieces to give away, and will continue to do so. To date, I have given away almost 30 bowls, mugs, and little vessels of every description. I like to think of them being valued and used, the way I valued and used them for years.
